GDC Geneva 2026: Towards a Globally Interoperable Digital Identity Ecosystem

MyPlusID and group company Althing just attended the GDC, and we experienced the birth of a worldwide and expanding embracement of the importance of decentralised digital identity concepts. It was the most spectacular ever digital identity conference, with more than 500 speakers and several thousand participants, confirming that the Digital Identity Revolution is here! It is happening right now.

In every corner of the world, we can see an explosion of initiatives and projects being deployed on the basis of decentralised digital identity concepts. This revolution is not primarily initiated by top political decisions at the state level. As the organiser says: “The global digital ecosystem moves at a velocity that traditional, purely state-centric frameworks struggle to match.”

This conference proves once and for all that society, organisations, individual firms, institutions, and foundations all over the world are pushing forward the decentralised identity concept, which is secure, respects privacy, provides digital trust, and hopefully interoperability.

Obviously, and it’s the main topic of the conference, interoperability is the last remaining challenge before the concept of a decentralised digital infrastructure is emerging as the new world standard. The attractiveness of the EUDI Wallet, the benefits of the MDL in the US, and other initiatives are more or less demonstrated as is.

We expect harmonisation of these initiatives and standards, that the issues related to standards and interoperability will be solved, because the marginal benefit of deploying its own standard is really modest vs. the future benefits of global interoperability. The same ethics and aspirations are driving the initiatives around the globe. In addition, the EU framework provides a legal reference allowing quicker global deployments.

We do believe that our services, orchestrating the best technologies available, of which the dominating part is open-source, with the decentralised identity concept will provide ecosystems that solve the main issues of digital transformation:
